Earnings and M&A News

HRmarketer lists the latest earnings from publicly traded HR and HR-related companies and all the latest M&A activity in the HR marketplace. 

  • Automatic Data Processing Inc. (ADP):  Reported that its fiscal first-quarter earnings rose as its employer and dealer services revenue rose. For the quarter that ended Sept. 30, ADP earned $297.4 million, or 55 cents per share, compared with $257.5 million, or 46 cents per share, in the year-ago quarter. The company's earnings from continuing operations totaled 45 cents per share, up from 39 cents per share in last year's first quarter. ADP's revenue rose 14 percent year over year to $1.99 billion from $1.75 billion.
  • Kenexa (KNXA):  Reported its third-quarter profit and revenue rose by about two-thirds, but sales fell short of Wall Street's expectations. Net income for the three months ended Sept. 30 rose to $7.1 million, or 27 cents per share, compared with $4.2 million, or 20 cents per share, during the same period a year earlier. Excluding stock-based compensation costs, one-time consulting fees and other adjustments, the company said it earned 33 cents per share, compared with 24 cents per share last year.
  • Kronos Inc., a privately held company that provides software that large companies use to manage recruiting, hiring, and retention functions, acquired Deploy Solutions Inc. Kronos said the Deploy acquisition will add strengths in Kronos' existing target markets such as retail and dining.
  • Salary.com entered into a definitive agreement to acquire the assets of ITG Competency Group, LLC. In addition, Salary.com has licensed the complete competency library of Schoonover Associates, Inc. With these transactions, Salary.com will own an extensive competency library comprising over 2,000 job competencies and will offer consulting services for competency model development and support partnership re-selling arrangements.

HRmarketer.com will soon sport a graphic redesign that emphasizes social networking and RSS feeds and will also introduce a customized welcome page and upgraded planning features.

The improvements coming in early 2008 include: 

  • The ability to upload and schedule press release distributions.
  • Enhanced statistics for press releases sent to journalists including open rates and deliverable rates.
  • Improvements to the HRmarketer.com "Community" including enhanced social networking capabilities and the ability for members to "comment" on journalists, analysts, media outlets and events. Members can also create a public buyer guide listing with custom "tags" and the ability to link HR prospects to your company web site, collateral, research reports, podcasts, blogs and more.
  • A new blogs database, including a built-in RSS feed reader application to quickly monitor recent postings from hundreds of human resource blogs.
  • The ability to subscribe to RSS feeds to keep current on the latest speaking and award opportunities in the HR and related spaces.
  • The ability to select from over 25 HRmarketer alerts members want to receive, and how they want to receive them. Choices include email, RSS feeds or as a "module" on your HRmarketer.com welcome page. No matter how sweet the temptation, when it comes to releasing news from your company, don't just make stuff up.

Here are some recommendations to keep in mind when drafting press releases:

  • When distributing news to journalists and editors, make sure it’s of true news value to their publications – i.e., know the pubs you’re pitching.
  • You should always focus on building relationships with the journalists and editors you’re targeting, becoming a reliable source for their stories and articles, not just getting their attention for attention’s sake.
  • When distributing news online, like posting search-optimized releases via HRmarketer’s Direct2Net wire service (PR Web), you can certainly be more promotional (announcing a content download like a white paper or research report, Webinar, etc.), but it still has to contain a kernel of news in a news release format. Yes, media will see your online releases, but more importantly, your buyers will find them too.
  • Take your highly creative but fictional release and turn it into a lead-generating direct marketing email and/or print mail campaign and then use PR to promote and reference the content while releasing vital news about your products and services.
